=>Jonathan’s ex-aide may soon be arrested by EFCC as Stella Oduah loses in court-DailyTrust
Kingsley Kuku, the former adviser to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan may soon be arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after having his case struck out by a court today, Wednesday February 17. The co-coordinator of the presidential amnesty programme had filed a suit to stop his investigation or arrest by the EFCC, but in his judgment, the trial judge, Okon Abang noted that the anti graft agency is statutorily empowered investigate him over alleged fraud during his leadership. He also added that if Kuku refuses to honour EFCC’s invitation, the agency has the right to arrest him, noting further that the present troubles of the ex-special adviser in the administration led by Jonathan has nothing to do with his political affiliation. Kuku is presently outside of the country on medical treatment and had alleged that there was purported plan to arrest him at the airport in Lagos when he returns to the country, hence the application. Similarly, Stella Oduah, a former aviation minister has had her suit against the EFCC and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) dismissed by a federal high court in Lagos today. Abang, same justice who handled the Kuku case struck out the suit, holding that the court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain the matter, thereby ordering Oduah to pay a cost of N15, 000 to the AGF. Oduah, now a senator reresenting Anambra north in the senate had prayed the court to stop an alleged plan to prosecute her over the two armored BMW cars allegedly purchased for N255 million by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) under her watch. Her fear stemmed from the fact that the present administration, in its war against corruption, may have concluded plans to humiliate her over the allegations, and sought an order restraining the respondents from probing her over the case of 2013. The EFCC challenged the jurisdiction of the Lagos court to entertain the suit, adding that Oduah’s claims were baseless and speculative.

Tompolo Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo has appealed his case before the federal high court. The embattled ex-warlord on February 16 appealed to a federal high court, sitting in Lagos state, to give him a copy of the ruling of February 8, 2016 in the charge filed against him by the EFCC, to allow him appeal against same, Vanguard reports. One of the counsels to the ex-militant leader, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has reportedly been visiting the court to get the ruling, but to no avail. Adegboruwa, yesterday made an oral appeal to Justice Ibrahim Buba, conveying his frustrations in respect of the ruling. The defence counsel told the court that it was pertinent to appeal to the judge to intervene because of the limited time Tompolo has to exercise his right of appeal. Responding to the defence counsel request, Justice Bubu said the court’s ruling was only delivered on February 8, 2016, adding that he had accumulated judgments and rulings to deliver. Justice Buba told Adegboruwa, that a lawyer from his firm had been frequent in the court since February 8, 2016 over same request. The judge said the ruling was being typed, but assured Adegboruwa that it would be ready today (Tuesday) for him to pick up. The EFCC on February 11 declared Tompolo wanted after he failed to show up in court to answer his charges. The anti-graft agency recently revealed that the former militant leader was declared wanted for illegal diversion of N11.9 billion ($60 million) belonging to NIMASA.

Vanguard reports that the directorate of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) made this disclosure on Tuesday, noting that they Nigerian media could not rival the technological superiority of the radio station. News had made the rounds on Monday of how Buhari sacked the media chiefs, as Sola Omole of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA); Ladan Salihu of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN); Sam Worlu of the Voice of Nigeria (VON); Mike Omeri of the National Orientation Agency (NOA); Emeka Mba of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and Ima Niboro of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) all got the boot. And in his address, IPOB’s coordinator of coordinators, Clifford Iroanya informed that inspite of the huge amounts of money pumped into the development of the media firms, they could only come up with dismal performances in their responsibility of outshining Radio Biafra. He noted that the federal government-owned stations had boasted of effectively neutralizing Radio Biafra and went to town partying for their phantom success but “To their chagrin, Radio Biafra continued to broadcast to the entire humanity with more devastating and damaging evidences of structural deficiencies inherent in the British concoction called Nigeria. “Radio Biafra has been able to raise the consciousness of Biafrans as well as the International Community on the plight of Biafrans and provided incontrovertible evidence that Biafra consists of the present-day South-East, South-South (except Edo state), Igala in Kogi state, and Idoma in Benue state.” The statement also read that “the ‘divide-and-rule’ strategy fashioned against Biafrans by the British and their Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba accomplices were effectively deconstructed and destroyed by the superior evidence, logic, and research undertaken by the Editorial Board of Radio Biafra.

=> Drama In Aso Villa As FG Justifies Buhari’s Foreign Trips-Vanguard
It was nothing short of a melodrama at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday, between State House correspondents and the Federal Government over the many foreign trips of President Muhammadu Buhari during a press briefing.
Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information, who justified the trips, said they were necessary to bring the country back on the track of development and growth. According to him, Nigeria was a pariah state under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He said that under Jonathan’s watch, corruption permeated the country, such that foreign investors deserted it. He stated that it was necessary to tell Nigerians that the trips had started paying off since investors’ confidence in the country had been restored. Mohammed spoke during a press briefing at the end of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting in Abuja. He said: “You do not run a country by being isolated. The personal presence of Mr. President in many of these fora is important because before now, we were almost a pariah state.
Journalists had waited patiently to be briefed on the outcome of the Federal Executive Meeting, FEC, which routinely meets to take decision on matters of government. As usual, yesterday’s meeting was chaired by president Buhari with his vice, professor Yemi Osinabjo and most of the 36 ministers in attendance. By a little after midday, the meeting had ended with the Minister of Information, Mr. Lai Mohammed, his counterpart in Environment, Amina Mohammed in company with Minister of State for Environment, Usman Ibrahim come into the press gallery inside the villa to brief Journalists. The briefing was reduced to a two item issue: Climate change and President’s many foreign trips so far, anchored by the Minister of Environment.

=>President Buhari Orders Mass Sackings At Budget Office-Punch
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the complete purge of the Budget Office because of the discrepancies and padding of the 2016 budget, The PUNCH has learnt.
Our correspondent gathered on Wednesday that the President handed down the directive following the embarrassment that the budget discrepancies had attracted to his government.
It will be recalled that Buhari had on Monday sacked Mr. Yahaya Gusau as the Director-General of the Budget Office for the same reason and approved the appointment of Mr. Tijjani Mohammed Abdullahi as his replacement.
But a top government official who pleaded anonymity told The PUNCH on Wednesday that the President was not yet done with the issue.
The source said Buhari had been properly briefed of the activities of government officials in the Budget Office who were described as “budget mafia” and accused of sabotaging the budget process.
He said that a decision had been taken that while many of the identified officials would be sacked, the remaining ones should be posted out of the office.
He added that the Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, had been directed to implement the presidential directive and communicate the decision to the affected officials.
The source said, “The President is really angry over the discrepancies discovered in the 2016 budget. It has been confirmed that it was a clear case of sabotage. It was said to have been carried out by a budget mafia whose members are strongly enshrined in the office.
“The President’s decision is that the former Director-General should not be the only casualty in this matter.
“He has ordered that the Budget Office should be purged. Many of the officials there will be sacked while others will be transferred to other places other than where they have already constituted themselves to a mafia.”
When asked when the President’s directive would take effect, the source said “it is with immediate effect.”

=>EFCC picks up Diezani’s husband -Nigerianeye
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday, invited Alison Amaechina Madueke, husband of embattled former Petroleum Minister, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke. Madueke, a retired Admiral of the Nigerian Navy and former Chief of Naval Staff, was picked up in Abuja yesterday morning by EFCC operatives over alleged money laundering to the tune of $600,000 through his personal accounts.
Admiral Alison Madueke (Rtd) An EFCC source close to the interrogation confirmed to newsmen last night that Madueke was summoned in connection with some funds, which were traced from some suspicious transactions into his account but did not give details of the transactions.
The source did not also say whether the transactions had anything to do with his wife, Diezani, who many believe authorized the controversial oil deals now rocking the industry. But a source close to Madueke said the man was simply invited to make some clarifications and nothing more. “They think he has some clarifications to do.
The invitation by the EFCC certainly had nothing to do with the wife. He reported there, cleared the air and he was asked to go back home,” the legal practitioner said. A top EFCC official said the man was asked to appear before them to make clarifications on certain issues related to some financial transactions traced to his account.
The source hinted that although Madueke had been cautioned and released on administrative bail, he might be asked to report back on a future date.
