Interesting African Cultures You Should Know About

$

Africa boasts of some of the world’s most fascinating cultures and traditions that dates back to hundred of years. There a couple of fascinating African cultures that you probably don’t know or might not even have heard of. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 4 fascinating African cultures to know.
1. Living With Their Mothers
In the Gio tribe int, Ivory Coast children never live with their fathers. The women of the tribe have their own houses (typically small huts), where they live with their children until the children are old enough to move out.
2. Sons are Raised by Uncles
In the Northern Angolan Songo tribe, when male children reach the age 5 or 6 years, they are sent to live with their uncles on the mother’s side. This is because, in their society, chiefs inherit their titles and positions through matrilineal lines.
3. Preserving Wild Animals
The Massai people of Kenya and Tanzania are averse to killing wild animals. They freely keep cattle and livestock, but wild animals are left untouched. This is largely because they consider these wild animals clan members, and each clan is associated with a specific species which they often keep close to them and treat as a clan member.
4. Beating the Suitor
In the Fulani tribe in West Africa, the custom of beating the suitor is followed as part of the Sharo tradition. The custom is followed when two men are vying for the same woman.
To determine the eventual suitor of the woman, the men are asked to compete for the hand of the woman by beating themselves up. The man who is able to take the beating while showing the least or no sign of pain, can take the woman as a wife. The people of the tribe might not practice the tradition as strictly as they once did, but there are still some parts of the tribe that practice it to the letter.

2. Keep it simple – You want a wardrobe that looks great on you, but don’t overdo it. Don’t wear more than three pieces of jewelry or more than three colors. Don’t dress like a rock star unless you’re in a band. If you want to be flashy, a simpler but stylish look would be sporting a black striped dress shirt with a white blazer, a dark pair of jeans, a dressy belt, and your sharpest dress shoes. You could also add a flashy watch or a simple accessory like an interesting necklace, but nothing more.
3. Change the way you see casual – casual doesn’t have to be boring. Have fun with collared shirts, or take some inspiration from those who approach casual a bit differently.
4. Pay attention to your supporting pieces – Some sweaters are lean and others are big and chunky. The first rule of thumb is that your top and bottom halves need to match. If you’re wearing a big, chunky, rugged fisherman knit sweater, your bottom needs to be rugged, too. Don’t wear a fisherman’s sweater with a beautiful silk-and-wool suit pant. Instead, wear it with something as casual as cargos or jeans, or dress it up with a Harris tweed blazer.
5. Never go shopping alone – Most of the time, it’s tough to trust the sales people because they usually work for commission. Shop with a friend who will give you their honest opinion. Also, read about shopping on a budget.
6. Stay a notch above – Don’t overdo it to a fault, but dare to take some risks. It’s always better to be a little bit overdressed than under-dressed in any setting. All you have to do is think about where and who you’re going to be with and just step it up one notch. But make sure you’re not better dressed than someone who is more important in a certain setting, like your boss.
7. Never underestimate the power of details – The last thing on is usually the first thing noticed. So mind the details instead of throwing together the main parts of your outfit. “Details” can include a scarf, a subtle pocket square, or the way you tie your tie knot.
8. Invest in a superb pair of shoes – If it’s one thing that women will notice, it’s your shoes. Especially how clean and sharp they look. It’s easy to wash and press the rest of your clothes to keep them looking new, but most guys disregard their shoes. Show that you’re a man of taste by getting a great pair of shoesand keeping them in pristine condition.
9. Fashion Tees with logos – When you’re going around with a big logo on your shirt, you risk looking like a walking billboard. Lose the lame Coca-Cola shirt and go for a classic v-neck tee or something artsy.
10. Disregard trends – Beware of buying something just because it’s “in” right now – stick to what you truly like. A lot of people rush to get in on the latest trend and end up with a bunch of clothes they don’t wear. It’s better to learn to build a versatile and timeless wardrobe first – then bring in your own twists with some of the new fashion. This one tip will save you so much money!
11. Don’t be a sucker for brand names – Before you decide to purchase an item, ask yourself if you are buying it simply because of the brand name or because you love the quality and style. Ask yourself,  “Would I buy this if there was no logo on it?”
12. Continually cultivate your image – Invest more time and money into your image. Cultivate your fashion sense. Your style is a huge mode of communication, and is worth caring for as much as your education, career, and relationships.
13. Ask for real feedback – Most of your friends and family aren’t going to go out of their way to tell you what looks bad. You have to ask for it. In fact, ask anyone and everyone you trust to tell you the truth. Ask your hairstylist, ask your best friend, ask your mother!
14. Upgrade your shave – Even if your fashion is golden, an unkempt beard can be an attraction killer. Achieve a perfect shave by trying a shave brush & old-fashioned double-edged razor.
15. Experiment with style – The only way you’ll really learn, is if you go out there and try new things. I make an effort to try something completely out of my comfort zone whenever I’m at a store – many times you’ll end up loving something you never thought you would. If you make mistakes, life goes on. So many guys are afraid to express themselves through their style, don’t be one of them.

You ask a label to sign you up for N5 MILLION, it simply means that, all the proceeds of the album must be sold without you getting a dime till they hit the N5MILLION mark + all your live performance profit sharing and any future royalties coming out from radio, t.v and movies.

3. Don’t believe the myth that if Channel O plays your video, they are helping you out. On the contrary, for playing your video, they must pay you your royalties; and don’t be afraid that they will blacklist you, it’s a music video channel, if they have no songs, there would be no channel and no advertisers for them. They need you more than you need them.

4. Never sign a contract that licenses your name and likeness or image to any label. Tomorrow, your name could be worth more than gold in terms of merchandising.

5. Lastly remember to read and sign any agreement with your label, distributor or producer no matter how small, whether it’s just for N5,000 or N5 million.

I have always been a fan of Chinese dishes ever since I visited a Chinese restaurants few years ago. I have always thought the meals are so difficult to make; though I enjoy cooking but not in my dreams will I dare make a Chinese meal. Stir fry dishes originated from China and in recent centuries has spread into other parts of Asia and the West.
How to make Chinese Stir Fry
In my own opinion, Chinese stir fry is one of the easiest Chinese delicacies to make once you have the right ingredients. You will see why I said so when I show you how I made my Spaghetti stir fry. Basically, having the right mix of ingredients is key; but everything can still go wrong if you don’t have the right recipe.
Chinese Spaghetti Stir Fry Ingredients;
There are some basic condiments that need to be present in your stir fry; however, you can still add your own ingredients or remove some to give a desired taste and aroma.
  • Mixed pepper/Traffic light pepper
  • Mange Tout
  • Mushrooms
  • Mixed Chili
  • Cooked chicken breast Strips/pieces
  • Broccoli
  • Green beans
  • Baby corns
  • Onions
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Garlic
  • Mixed vegetables (sweetcorn, peas, carrot etc.)
  • Soy Sauce
  • Maggi
Directions on how to make Spaghetti Stir Fry
My recipe is simple and easy…First thing is to prepare all the ingredients and condiments, basically all you do is cut or slice to desired shape. As seen in the images above, all the ingredients are already prepared.
Before you start frying your vegetables, you should start boiling your spaghetti at the same time. You should boil the spaghetti for about 10 minutes; it can be more depending on the amount.
Pour a little oil in the pot and let it get very hot
Pour all the vegetables in the hot oil and stir for 5 minutes
Pour the boiled spaghetti in and stir well
Add the Maggi and dark soy sauce and stir again for 2 minutes
Add any other ingredients you want to use i.e. sausages, boiled egg, chicken drumsticks etc… Leave to steam for 2-5 minute

If you’re the type that doesn’t like drinking water because you find it boring then you’re not alone. In as much as we know it’s important to take water to keep our body hydrated and not take it only when we are thirsty, it just seems like a chore to keep drinking something that’s plain and tasteless all the time. I got to know about a new trick to solve that problem and since I love my neighbor as myself I would love to share it. It’s called cucumber-infused water.

Okay, what’s the big deal about cucumber you ask? Well, not only does it make drinking water tastier with a refreshing flavor; it gives more health benefits than plain old’ water and makes staying hydrated interesting. It keeps your bones and blood healthy, helps your body fight free radicals and makes your overall look even better.
Once you try it out, cucumber water will definitely be one drink you’d want to take whether you are thirsty or not. Here are the great benefits of drinking cucumber water:
Cucumber water helps your body stay hydrated
Our body is made up of about two-thirds of water, so it’s important to drink enough water daily to stay healthy and hydrated to keep this balance. Cucumber veggie also contains about 95 percent water, this already makes the cucumber hydrating by itself, Cucumber is also known to help with maintaining the right body temperature.
It’s good for your skin and body
Cucumber water helps with cleansing toxins out of the body thus producing a more rested feeling. I read that the silica and antioxidants helps skin stay clear, smooth and supple. By adding cucumber to water it gives extra nutrients that help keeps your skin beautiful and healthy. You can also wash your face with cucumber water and even more add it to your regular beauty routine to help clear blemishes and calm skin irritation.
Cucumbers help with Stress
Cucumbers contain many vitamins, including Vitamin B, B1, B5, and B7. These vitamins are known to help fight anxiety and stress
Drinking cucumber water helps muscles
Next time you’re going to the gym add a few slices to your drinking water. It’s good to take this drink when working out and doing strenuous exercises. Cucumbers contain silica a trace mineral necessary in the repair of muscle tissues.
Cucumber is low in calorie
An entire cucumber is an average of about 45 calories, so a few slices to your water is not really that many additional calories. Studies have also shown that an increase in your intake of cucumber water might also help you lose weight reducing water retention throughout your body.
It fights free radicals
Cucumber water adds extra vitamins and minerals and several flavonoid compounds which all act as antioxidants that seek out and destroy free radicals. These substances can cause diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart diseases. Cucumber water can help supplement your diet; the more you take, the more nutrients you receive.

Hibiscus sabdariffa which is produced from Roselle leaves and popularly known as Zobo drink in Nigeria is a bright red beverage drink which often serves as refreshment at parties.  Zobo contains various healthy nutritional properties that’s needed for the body.

Zobo has a pleasant unique taste that makes the drink enjoyable. It helps keep the body’s pH balanced because it doesn’t have white sugar in it and is able to control blood sugar level for diabetic patients.
It’s refreshing and very effective to relieve one from thirst. Also helps reduce hypertension, cholesterol level, and high blood pressure. It contains mild anti-bacterial properties which aid the body in getting rid of bacteria and worms in the body system.

Zobo is also beneficial for weight loss.  Of course in Nigeria most of the food we consume is starchy and rich in carbohydrates which causes weight gain. Studies however have shown that Hibiscus tea helps reduce dietary carbohydrates, removes and lowers the absorption of starch and glucose hence aids in losing weight.
If you always have Menstrual pain the good news is you can take Zobo which relieves cramps. The drink does not contain acidic properties like oxalic or urine acid, so can be taken by people suffering gout and kidney stone diseases.

It’s known to treat loss of appetite and helps in boosting the body’s immune system. It can be used also as a food supplement. It’s very rich in vitamin C thus can serve as an excellent aid in fighting cold and other infections which also acts as a natural cure to prevent fever.
The anti-oxidant substances rich in Zobo drink could prevent cancer. Consuming any food or raw materials with anti-oxidant would significantly strengthen the immune system especially in fighting free radicals.
Zobo drink has a calming effect that reduces stress and settles the nerves. It will be mostly enjoyed when served cold.

10 Recurring Myths about Copyright Protection in Nigeria

$

Source: NPLFWATCH

Copyright myths travel and are often retold in ways that people believe they are true. If you follow the intellectual property ‘scene’ in Nigeria, you would no doubt have heard one of these myths with regards to the use and protection of works.

Myth No. 1. You can use characters from other writer’s work as long as your story is original.

So not true! Notwithstanding your originality, Nigeria’s Copyright law is quite explicit with regard to adaptation and derivative works i.e. works based or derived from another copyrighted work. The law provides that the owner of the original work has the exclusive right to control the use of their characters. So even if the making of your new work is a highly creative process but you chose to write a story using settings or characters from somebody else’s work, you need the copyright owner’s permission.
For example, If you want to publish a story about the characters “Olanna and Kainene” from the book “Half of a Yellow Sun,” you would need permission from Chimamanda Adichie. One major exception to this is in cases of criticism, parody, pastiche, or caricature. In such cases, the fair use provision says that if you want to make fun of something, you do not have to obtain the author’s permission in order to do so.
Relevant provisions: Section 6 of the Copyright Act and Second Schedule of the Copyright Act: Exceptions from Copyright Control

Myth No. 2. To obtain copyright on my own work, I have to register it with the Nigerian Copyright Commission.

Not true! There is no requirement to register a work in order to receive copyright protection in Nigeria. As soon as an original work is reduced to a fixed form, the work is automatically copyrightable in Nigeria. However the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), through the Nigerian Copyright e-Registration System (NCeRS), provides copyright owners the option to register their work and deposit a copy with the NCC, which serves as public notification of the work.

Myth No. 3. If your work does not have a copyright notice or symbol ©, there is no copyright protection.

This is not true. While a copyright notice warns people about your protection, you do not have to put a formal copyright notice or symbol on your work for it to be protected. Under Nigeria law, once a work is original and has been fixed into any definite medium of expression, it is protected. Copyright notices are typically displayed as: Copyright [date] by [author/owner].
Relevant provisions: Section 1(2) of the Copyright Act

Myth No. 4. Copyright does not protect architecture.

Not true. Under Nigeria’s copyright law, copyright in a work of architecture exists and it includes the exclusive right to control the erection of any building which reproduces the whole or a substantial part of the work either in its original form or any form recognisably derived from the original. It does not however include the right to control the reconstruction in the same style as the original of a building to which the copyright relates.
Relevant provisions: Section 6(3) of the Copyright Act

Myth No. 5. Everything on the Internet is free to use because it is in the public domain.

Not true. Subject to certain exceptions, the owner of a copyright enjoys the exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute and display a work. Without the consent of the copyright owner, it is copyright infringement to publish or distribute the work on the Internet.
Relevant provisions: Section 6 of the Copyright Act

Myth No. 6. Copyright violation is not a crime.

Actually, it is a criminal violation. Under the Copyright Act, if a person is convicted by the Federal High Court for the sale, possession or distribution of copyrighted material for purposes of trade or business, he or she is liable to a fine of ₦100 for every copy of the infringing work and/or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding two years. Also, if a person is convicted for the unauthorized rental, lease, hire or loan of copyrighted material to the public for commercial purposes, he or she is liable to a fine of ₦100 for every copy dealt with and/or imprisonment for six months.
Relevant provisions: Section 20 of the Copyright Act

Myth No. 7. You can copyright the name of your band or a song or movie title.

Not true. While copyright in Nigeria protects original works, be it literary, musical or artistic works, names including band names, movie and song titles, and other short phrases are not subject to copyright protection. They may however find protection in other forms of intellectual property e.g. trademarks.

Myth No. 8. A work has to be published in order to receive copyright protection

Publication is not necessary for copyright protection. All you need to do is create an original work and fix it into any definite medium of expression.
Relevant provisions: Section 1(2) of the Copyright Act

Myth No. 9. An advertising agency can freely use copyrighted music in their adverts without authorisation, permission or license

Not only is this not legal in Nigeria but it is often referred to by many advertisers as the “nine seconds rule”. There is no nine seconds rule under Nigerian law. There are no portions, few lines of a piece of text or safe percentages of a copyrighted work that can be used without first obtaining permission from the copyright owner. Doing so amounts to copyright infringement in Nigeria.

Myth No. 10. Copyright can protect my ideas.

This is not true and is a very common myth. Copyright does not protect ideas, concepts, systems, or methods of doing something. Even though you express your ideas in writing or drawings and claim copyright in your description, copyright protection does not extend to the ideas itself as revealed in your written or artistic work.
This article is intended to provide general information about the subject matter. Professional legal advice should be sought about specific circumstances.

Fashion is not an alien term in Nigeria, in fact every person has a theory on what fashion should look life. From frowning on trouser sagging, and mini skirt or cleavage showcase, to some who encourages and emulate these things, it is safe to say everyone has personal preferences and opinion. Fashion in Nigeria has always been divert and distinct based on religion, ethnic groups, ethics, and cultures.

The Nigerian fashion industry has been getting more coverage, participation and attentions thanks to media and travels. Many outsiders would often assume Africans only wear native attires or that cloths were merely worn to cover our bodies and protect from environmental factors.

The Nigerian fashion was greatly influenced by the European fashion in the 1960’s especially by the British fashion as we were colonized by them. Most Nigerian women back then wore long dresses and hats, fitted or over-sized depending on preferences complemented with perfectly permed sprayed Afros.

The uneducated ones would simply go for the native cloths and local hairstyles. Not long after did platform shoes and stiletto heels become vogue. Men would rock bootlegged pants, tight fitted shirts with top buttons undone, with the still much in trend Afro.

With the changing years came different fashion statements like Oleku for women, Danshiki and Buba for men, Baggy suits were also worn by men. Chunky jewelries, huge permed Afros , mini skirts, Bubus and many more for the women.

Lately however, the American fashion and styles from all over the world like Peruvian, Brazilian, Chinese hair, has been very influencing. Natural hair , lightening creams, wedges, skinny jeans etc have also been in vogue.

Thankfully, lots of people are embracing ethnic and traditional wears to official and social functions or even mixing it up with western wears. A look into the London 2012 Olympic Opening as the women don Gele with Iro and Buba to the men in Danshiki with all the green popping is an example that carries a message that regardless of how much influence western wears has on our motherland, tradition is not lost, and will not be.
And the outstanding detail that cannot be ignored or forgotten is that fashion has a way of always coming back to repeat itself. And today, these preceding styles are making a major comeback, especially with hairstyle trends. The image below depicts how to wear one of the stylish hairstyles.

Women’s participation in Nigerian politics is very important, however, most of the times, women are relegated to the background, as floor members and cheerleaders. Amazingly, in the pre-colonial era, women have been an important part of our political set up. For example, we have Queen Amina of Zaria in the 11th century who made Zaria a prominent Commercial Centre through her strength. Also, Moremi of Ife, Emotan of Benin, Omu Okwei of Ossomari, great amazons who displayed wonderful bravery and strength in the politics and commercial scenes.

Here are a few other Nigerian Women who have represented the female folk in Nigerian Politics.

INTRODUCTION
Diezani Alison Madueke is the former minister of petroleum in Nigeria, the first female President of OPEC. She is also one of the most popular and influential women in politics in Nigeria. Here is all you need to know from Diezani Alison-Madueke biography.

EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND

Diezani K. Agama was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Her father was Chief Frederick Abiye Agama. She studied Architecture in England and then at Howard University in the United States. She graduated from Howard with a bachelor's degree on 8 December 1992. She returned to Nigeria and joined Shell Petroleum Development Corporation that year. In 2002, she attended Cambridge University for her MBA degree. In April 2006, Shell appointed her its first female Executive Director in Nigeria.

Since 1999 she has been married to Admiral Allison Madueke (retired), one-time Chief of Naval Staff who was at various times governor of Imo and Anambra State. She has two sons, Chimezie Madueke and Ugonna Madueke. In September 2011 Alison-Madueke was awarded an honorary Doctorate degree in Management Sciences by the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.

In September 2008 there was an unsuccessful attempt to kidnap Alison-Madueke at her house in Abuja with her son Chimezie Madueke.

CAREER AND LIFE

Diezani Alison-Madueke has held three significant positions in the Nigerian federal government. She was appointed Transport Minister in July 2007. On 23 December 2008, she was named as Minister of Mines and Steel Development. After Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan became acting President in February 2010, he dissolved the cabinet on 17 March 2010, and swore in a new cabinet on 6 April 2010 with Alison-Madueke as Minister for Petroleum Resources.
Minister of Petroleum Resources

As Minister of Petroleum Resources, Alison-Madueke pledged to transform Nigeria's oil and gas industry so that all Nigerians benefit.

In April 2010, President Goodluck Jonathan signed the Nigerian Content Act, which aimed to increase the percentage of petroleum industry contracts awarded to indigenous Nigerian businesses – a reaction to the domination of the sector by foreign operators.

One of the most controversial policies introduced under Alison-Madueke was the government's plan to remove state subsidies on fuel prices. Alison-Madueke supported the discontinuation of the subsidy "because it poses a huge financial burden on the government, disproportionately benefits the wealthy, [and] encourages inefficiency, corruption and diversion of scarce public resources away from investment in critical infrastructure."
Firsts

Alison-Madueke was the first woman to hold the position of Minister of Petroleum Resources in Nigeria, and in October 2010 she became the first woman to head a country delegation at the semi-annual OPEC conference. She was also the first female Minister of Transportation, and the first woman to be appointed to the board of Shell Petroleum Development Company Nigeria. On 27 November 2014, she was elected as the first female President of OPEC.

On working in male-dominated sectors, Alison-Madueke said she warned the young women she mentored while at Shell to "change their mode of thinking."
Financial misconducts

A PBS NewsHour segment quoted American and British officials saying that former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke might personally have organized a diversion of $6 billion (N1.2 trillion) from the Nigerian treasury. She was arrested in London on 2 October 2015.

She has been charged with responsibility for $20 billion missing from the Petroleum agency. A former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Sanusi, made the comment again during a PBS interview on 2 December 2015. Sanusi believes he was fired from the Central Bank of Nigeria because he went public with charges that $2 billion was missing from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) under Alison-Madueke's management. Alison Madueke says Sanusi made the allegations to retaliate after she didn’t help him to get appointed as the president of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and dismissed his allegation.

She's been accused of awarding multi-billion Naira contracts without recourse to due processand of recklessly spending government funds. as well as wasting billions of Nigerian dollars inappropriately on private jets.

In October 2009, the Senate of Nigeria indicted Diezani Alison-Madueke and recommended prosecution for the transfer of 1.2 billion naira into the private account of a toll company without due process and in breach of concession agreement.

She has been officially charged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of Nigeria for 'Money Laundering'.

Corruption Allegations

It all began during the time Diezani Alison-Madueke became Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister when the American and British officials alleged that the former Petroleum Minister might have personally organized a diversion of $6 billion (N1.2 trillion) from the Nigerian treasury.
Apart from being arrested on 2 October 2015 in London, Alison-Madueke was accused and charged with following:
  • Responsible for $20 billion missing from the Petroleum Agency
  • Awarding multi-billion naira contracts without recourse to due process
  • Recklessly spending government funds
  • Wasting billions of dollars (Nigerian tax payers money) inappropriately on private jets.
An investigative report sent by some Italian Prosecutors indicted ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Diezani and others in a $1.3 billion Malabu oil fraud.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi also went public with charges that $2 billion was missing from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) under Alison-Madueke’s management, but she dismissed his allegation saying the ex-CBN governor is retaliating because she didn’t help him to get appointed as the president of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
In the course of the ongoing anti-graft war, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) seized $18 million mansion belonging to Alison-Madueke – a building located in Asokor area of FCT, Abuja.
The agency also linked other assets worth millions to her name such as the Le Meridien Hotel in Port Harcourt.

Bribery Allegations

Another report indicted Diezani Alison-Madueke in the act of bribery. On May 3, 2017, the former INEC staff, Yisa Adedoye was convicted by the High Court in Lagos for accepting N264.88 million to rig the 2015 general election results, along with other staff of the commission.
Mr. Adedoye pleaded guilty to the charges as a confirmation that the said financial inducement came from Alison-Madueke.
Furthermore, telephone conversations by Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, was hacked and it revealed that she deliberately connived with her business partners to steal the country’s oil revenue.
An investigation carried out by US security agencies showed that she used her influence to facilitate illicit business opportunities for Messrs. Kola Aluko and Jide Omokore, who used Shell companies to receive billion-dollar contracts to sell Nigeria’s crude oil.
Although it wasn’t clear what relationship she has with the duo, but it was obvious that her connection made it possible for Messrs Omokore and Aluko to get multi-billion oil contracts which were deemed ineligible for their companies – Atlantic Energy Holdings Limited and its subsidiaries, Drilling Concepts Limited (AECD) and Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited.

Leaked Telephone Conversation

The phone conversation between Diezani, Kola Aluko and Jide Omokore was revealed by the US prosecutors and they quoted Mrs Alison-Madueke as saying:
“We stuck our necks out regarding the SAA and we supported it.”
Below is the rest of the conversation as acquired by the US investigators:
                      Diezani Alison-Madueke
Diezani Alison-Madueke
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under the governorship of Mr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi reported that AEDC “had neither the technical expertise nor the capital to develop the joint venture, but [was] nonetheless able to lift crude and retain the proceeds…up to 70% of the profit of the Joint Venture.”
The Bank noted that the arrangement was designed “for the purpose of acquiring assets belonging to the [Federal Republic of Nigeria] and transferring the income to private hands.”

AEDC & AEBD Connection

AEDC and AEBD, were allegedly incorporated in July 2010, about three months after Mrs. Alison-Madueke became Petroleum Resources Minister and were awarded eight oil mining leases (OMLs) evidently on procedural manipulations carried out by the ex-minister.
According to a report by the Sahara Reporters, the billion-dollar deal delivered astounding wealth to Messrs. Omokore and Aluko, who bought and renovated luxury London properties for Diezani and renovated the properties, bought her furniture worth millions of dollars and cater for her living and lifestyle expenses in London.

Messrs. Aluko and Omokore have allegedly drenched themselves in obscene opulence, including the acquisition of a $50 million luxury condominium in New York and the $80 million yacht, Galactica Star by the former – a yacht which reportedly hosted the 32nd birthday of American music superstar, Beyonce, as she travels on the yacht with her husband JayZ in 2013.
US Court papers revealed that Messrs. Aluko earned over $1.5billion in revenues from the sale of Nigeria’s crude oil and that the sum was laundered into the US and the United Kingdom through the purchase of properties and other luxury items for themselves and Mrs Alison-Madueke.
While the EFCC investigates other corruption allegations and charges, she later implicated other top governments and bank officials who participate in syphoning the oil funds.
Mrs Alison-Madueke was diagnosed with cancer and reportedly receiving treatment in the United Kingdom. She is currently facing a series of multi-billion dollar fraud-related investigations by Nigerian and UK authorities.

Forfeit of Properties

A Justice of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, Chuka Obiozor on July 19, ordered the temporary forfeiture of a $37.5m property at Banana Island bought by Diezani Alison-Madueke in 2013.
                     Diezani Alison-Madueke
The move was made following actions by the EFCC who argued that the property – 24 apartments, 18 flats and six penthouses, located as Building 3, Block B, Bella Vista Plot 1, Zone N, Federal Government Layout, Banana Island Foreshore Estate – could have been acquired with proceeds of alleged unlawful activities of the Minister.
The court also ordered the temporary forfeiture of the sums of $2,740,197.96 and N84,537,840.70, which is said to be part of the rent collected on the property.
According to Anselem Ozioko, who is the counsel for EFCC, an investigation by the agency revealed that Diezani Alison-Madueke made the $37.5m payment for the purchase of the property in cash and money was moved from her house in Abuja and paid into the seller’s First Bank account.
Currently, the government is seeking a world-wide freeze of multi-billion dollar assets owned by Messrs. Aluko and Omokore, including the $80 million Super Yacht (the Galactica) and three private jets.

Diezani 2015 SICKNESS AND CANCER

READ SAHARA REPORTER'S REPORT ON HER BELOW IN  Nov 14, 2015
The publisher of Ovation magazine, Dele Momodu, has released photos of cancer-stricken Nigeria’s former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, in the inaugural issue of a brand new tabloid titled Boss magazine.
Last week, Mr. Momodu devoted his weekly column in Thisday newspaper to relating his experience meeting with the seriously sick former minister for an interview in the UK. The column engendered significant controversy on social media, with many readers accusing the columnist cum celebrity publisher of helping to launder Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s image. Some of the column’s critics felt that Mr. Momodu’s brief was to garner public sympathy for the embattled ex-minister, who is the focus of money laundering investigations in the UK as well as Nigeria.
Today, Mr. Momodu released the text of an interview with Mrs. Madueke along with photos of the physically ravaged former minister. The shocking photos are a far cry from the ex-minister’s former radiant and energetic persona.

However, the release of the former minister’s devastated physique has left many Nigerians on social media still skeptical. Many commentators have speculated that images of her ravaged appearance could have been “photo-shopped” in order to curry public sympathy for a woman who was one of the brashest members of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet.

Earlier today, SaharaReporters spoke by phone to Mr. Momodu who was transiting in Dubai, United Arab Emirate, to ask if he was willing to release original copies of Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s photos to our reporter. He said he could not, explaining that he had signed “several” legal agreements never to release the photos to a third party.

SaharaReporters was first to exclusively report close to a year ago that Mrs. Alison-Madueke was suffering from cancer and making frequent trips to the UK for treatment. At the time, she was still the most powerful member of Mr. Jonathan’s cabinet.

Following one of our reports on her sickness, the then Petroleum Minister issued a statement refuting our report. However, a month ago, her attorney sent a letter to SaharaReporters and other media organizations admitting for the first time that the former powerful Petroleum Minister was undergoing treatment for breast cancer in the UK.
In September, the UK National Crimes Agency arrested Mrs. Alison-Madueke in connection with fraud. She was granted bail and has not been charged in any British court. However, UK authorities confiscated some cash from Mrs. Alison-Madueke, her mother, Beatrice Agama, and Melanie Spencer, the wife of Kevin Okyere, a Ghanaian businessman identified as one of the former minister’s alleged co-conspirators.

Ever wondered what it will feel like to still be in the 90’s? the same familiar easy life where all there were was watching movies like Matrix, Titanic, Terminator, Indian movies like Toofan, and sitcoms like Papa Ajasco, This life series, Paloma and Diego, amongst countless others… grooving to jams like TLC No-Scrubs. And we were also privileged to know the iconic moments Between 1990 and 1994, when Nigeria won silver, bronze and gold medals in the biannual Africa Cup of Nations competition, or when Nigerian football bounced back to global reckoning in Atlanta 1996 Olympics, the country’s football team won the gold medal, thus becoming the first African country to achieve that feat earning us the name “Giant of Africa”.

Entertainment:
The 90’s had a blend of technology and physical interaction/relationships. A mixture so rare in this age and time with lots of nudity and ratchet artists in music videos, movies, Ads., in contrast to good old days of {Baby’s day out, Everyday people, Destiny child, Home alone, Dr do little, Kids Say The Darnest Things, Usher, Boys II men, Michael jackson (*Whispers*He was every girl’s dream) Mark Morrison, Edris Abdulkareem, Daddy Showkey, Dando Drivers and so on}

Food & Pastime:
Choko milo was much more thicker and chocolaty with yummy deliciousness to booth (Yeah you read that right), Sardine was 4 in each holder (Gasp) Donkua (An Hausa snack) has a place on this list too, condensed ice cream, and the smallest satchet of cowbell was sold for 5naira.

So much to reminisce on ranging from building sandcastles with legs and Playing the best brain tasking guess game (Animal, person, place or things) to playing Mario and Nintendo. And these books amongst many made our childhood complete:

Everything seemed so simple, cheaper and easier that i had 80 naira to school everyday for a year or more, the money would buy scotch egg, small pie, a copy of superstrikas and yoghurt. Looking forward to valentine was one of the best times of a being a teenage girl as it was sure cards or gifts would pour in from boys who couldnt walk up the nerve to talk to you.

The 90’s herald the dawn of technology age in Nigeria and numerous Cyber Cafes were in business making lots of money off people who had no clue what they were doing in yahoo chat rooms. Upside, it connected us to the people from all over the world. Downsides, most lost their innocence to the likes of online porn, fraudulent behaviors that stemmed from the belief that they were “entitled” to earn what their ancestors had slaved for from the white people.

Technology:
Image result for 90s computerThere are positive outcome of cyber influence like wider and easier range of knowledge, opinions, not just the ones taught in classrooms, but facts cannot be ignored that it is easy to see why below 13-yr-olds and above can’t be children because of easy access to the unsanctioned aspects of the internet, talking back to elderly people and mimicking all they see on the net. Take away the ipods, subscribtions, and see depression shoot up…
Politics & Economy:
Let’s not forget that the 90’s was also a crucial, tear filled period for the Nigerian politics, dating from the not so revered Abacha regime to his time of death, MKO Abiola’s election win and death, Cliford Orji, IBB, the common predominant school strikes, NEPA (PHCN) strikes, NLC protests, Ken Saro Wiwa, petrol price deflations and inflations. And i remember the elders would complain of how things were ridiculously expensive back then because a cup of rice was fluctuating between 20 and 25 Naira.

On a final note, it was a bit difficult to transition to the jet age but it was worth it, and most of us wouldn’t want to still be in the 90’s knowing what we know now, but then let us know if you’d rather we still be in the easy melancholy 90s. Remember to stay positive in a world that is reeling so fast, don’t have the notion that you cant be a role model to the upcoming young ones because you are not done growing. Remember, kids these days absorbs things fast and they will remember who impacted what on them.

18 Nigerian Celebrities Who Allegedly Don’t Like Themselves But Pretend To

$

There are certain celebrities in the entertainment industry that one way or the other, rarely cross paths. While some of them have an existing beef, some of them aren’t just cool. But then again, what is entertainment without some hates here and there. After all, not everyone will like you regardless of who you are. Right? Let’s see Nigerian celebrities that we barely see around each other.

1. Banky W and Don Jazzy

Sometimes we wonder if Banky W and Don Jazzy are enemies or maybe they just don’t get along.
The two industry chiefs are rarely seen together and don’t have any pictures together.
Over the years, Don Jazzy has refused to wish Banky W a happy birthday and repeated that this year.

2. Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay

That one time Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay met! Despite that the two represent Pepsi, they barely see eye to eye. Seyi Shayrecently revealed she doesn’t really know Tiwa Savage

3. Burna Boy and Patoranking

Burna Boy recently said it is disrespectful to compare him to Patoranking. He might have a point in the sense that he has 2 albums and Patoranking has none. The two clearly don’t have any relationship. While their fans want the two of them on the same track, we here don’t see that happening anytime soon.

4. Wizkid and Davido

Wizkid and Davido’s love-hate relationship is well documented. Another thing that is well documented is the fact that the two of them do their best not to see each other or even share the same stage

5. D’Prince and Everybody

In this cold music industry, D’Prince seem to be on his own lane. Apart from Wizkid and the Mavin crew, it is tough to see any celebrity with D’Prince

6. Plantashun Boiz (2face, Blackface & Faze)

The former Plantashun Boiz crew are not cool with each other. That is why anytime they reunite, it is a big news

7. Reminisce and M.I

Local rapper beef eh?
It is clear M.I doesn’t really get along with Reminisce. The two of them are rarely seen together as well

8. M.I – Olamide

M.I looks like he now has respect for Olamide after failing to get beef out of the YBNL chief.
That being said, Olamide and M.I don’t roll

9. Timaya and Patoranking

Patoranking was Timaya’s protege before the former went on to sign a record deal with Foston. One would think Timaya and Patoranking will be rolling in tandem like Banky W – Wizkid in the good old days. Truth is they don’t roll with each other

BIRTH NAME:          Biodun Okeowo

DATE OF BIRTH:      December 26, 1971

OCCUPATION:         Actress

MARITAL STATUS:  Not Married

 INTRODUCTION

Biodun Okeowo, also known as Omo Butty is a popular Nollywood actress and producer in the Yoruba sector. She has made a quite the name since she debuted in 2006.

EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND

She hails from Remo, Ogun State, but she grew up in Fadeyi, Lagos. She is from a polygamous home, and she is the last of her mother’s five children. According to her their mother raised us single-handedly because she lived apart from their dad.

She studied Communication Arts at the Lagos State University, Ojo. She interned at LTV8 and learnt a lot about journalism there. According to her she would have become a newscaster, but the love and passion she developed for acting made her pursue a career in acting. Incidentally, her father used to be an actor with the Awarawa Theatre Group. Her father performed alongside people like Jide Kosoko.

SHE SPEAKS MORE ABOUT HER EARLY LIFE IN AN INTERVIEW SEE BELOW;
Did your parents especially, your father being a pastor, object to your chosen career?
Not really, my dad was an actor before he became a Prophet. So, he did not object to it but my mother was afraid because many people told her that I would have to go diabolical to make it in the industry. Also, the fear of losing me, her simple and God-fearing daughter to some worldly things made her object. But later I was able to convince her that all I needed was her prayers. And being a prayer warrior, God answered her prayers and the rest is history.

The actress had talked about virginity and the need for ladies to protect themselves till they get married while using her mistake I the past as case study.
Since her interview was taken out of context, the actress has come out to set the records straight that she got deflowered at age 21, became pregnant in the process unprepared and not 16 as widely claimed by some medium.

Clearing the air on the issue, she wrote,“To set the records straight I was 21 when I disvirgined, got preggy unprepared, so do I advise girls to make same mistake? I granted the interview years ago, why is it trending now? All I said was “My kids father was my first” for the jobless ones, you can go find him & confirm from him he’s very much alive. Where did I say I was disvirgined at 16 as stated above?”

Would you say your chosencareer was the reason for your failed marriage?
We are pencils in the hand of the creator, he knows and directs our lives. My career has got nothing to do with that.
What lessons did you learn from your previous marriage?
My broken marriage was a place of learning to me. It taught me to be a better person and has opened a hidden part of me. Then I was younger but I have learnt that what will be will be, no matter what.

CAREER AND LIFE

She began her acting career in 2006 under the tutelage of Ray Eyiwunmi Organisation. Even though her mother never wanted her to become an actress, her father supported her when she made my intention to become an actress known. With time, she was able to convince her that she would do well as an actress.
In her words;"Lasun Ray Eyiwunmi was the first person who believed in me and I remain grateful to him."

She got the nickname, Omo Butty, from a movie of the same title. The movie was produced by her and she acted the lead role. It was a hit with fans and they loved her performance in the film.
She revealed some of her earliest challenges include sleeping on location for days without good food and other things. Sometimes, they go as far as Akwa Ibom State to shoot, and you know one is not used to their food there.

The first movie she acted in was Oro Oka, but the movie that shot her to limelight was Tolani Osinrin. She'd also appeared in several movies such as Star Boy, Temi Yemi, among others.
SHE SPEAKS MORE ABOUT HER CAREER AND PROGRESS BELOW;
On Being A Producer
I have produced eight movies so far including Ife si were, Folashade, Ore, Omo Butty, Aturota, among others. I used to produce one movie per year but I have not done so in the past three years, because of the problem of piracy. It is killing Nollywood and I don’t want to do a sub-standard job. The state of the economy is also not helping matters, considering the fact that we spend a lot of money in shooting movies. Because of that, producers have to cut cost, and I am not ready to do that.
Lessons learnt
While I was with Ray Eyiwunmi Organisation, I learnt that the show must always go on no matter what happens. As an actor, you must be focused and disciplined. Before getting into the industry, I was temperamental but I have since learnt how to be patient and take whatever comes my way. Back then, we were also taught that you must be able to undress anywhere and change into costumes because you can be called to perform anywhere and anytime. You also need to have a good body; that way you can play any role and would not feel bad about undressing when there is a need to do so.
Scandals
I prefer to focus on my career, and I don’t like to discuss my personal life. However, Kunle Adegbite is a colleague and friend; that we are often seen together does not mean we are dating. Regarding the man who claimed that he slept with me; he later confessed that we have never met. That incident actually affected the way I relate with fans. Now, I am very careful about accepting gifts from male fans. Some people will offer you gifts as fans, and they will go behind your back to say something else. And you know after a fan has given you a gift, it will be difficult to snub the person.
Romance
As regards marriage, keep your fingers crossed as anything can happen at any time. My ideal man must be handsome, God-fearing and caring.
FashionFashion is about looking good and being comfortable at the same time. I don’t wear what I am not comfortable in. Depending on my mood, I can do without make-up and other things. I love wristwatches and I spend quite a lot on them. I don’t leave home without my small Bible and phone.

Extremely rare white mother and baby white giraffes have been filmed in Kenya without the distinctive marking of its usual color and patterns.
The Giraffe species is named Camelopardalis which means, “camel-leopard – because they were originally thought to be a cross breeding of the two animals.

There have been different subspecies of giraffes with different patterns including:
  • the Masai giraffes which have spots that look like oak leaves;
  • the Rothschild’s giraffes boast large, brown splotches outlined by thick, pale lines;
  • Kenya’s own reticulated giraffe which has a dark coat with very graphic shapes and well-defined narrow lines;
  • the northern giraffe,
  • Nubian Giraffe,
  • the Angolan Giraffe,
  • the Kordofan Giraffe,
  • the West African Giraffe,
  • the Rhodesian Giraffe.
These white reticulated giraffes have a genetic condition called leucism – a condition which doesn’t allow skin cells to produce pigmentation, but soft tissues, like dark eyes, do.
As rare as white giraffes are, some have been found in Tanzania – a first of which was reported in January 2016 at Tarangire National park. The two white giraffes come from Kenya and the duo is an adult and calf filmed by he Hirola Conservation Programme (HCP), a group that partners with Rainforest Trust (RT)
RT explains that the giraffes were in the region where Rainforest Trust and HCP are protecting vital habitat for the Hirola, the world’s most threatened antelope.
According to the group, report of a white baby giraffe and its mother sent by Rangers who in turn got the report from one of the villagers adjacent to the Ishaqbini Conservancy prompted them to quickly get to the scene and film the white giraffes.
As can be seen in the video, the giraffes look real just like many other animals with leucism including white peacocks, albino alligator, moose etc.

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature had once raised alarm over these animals going extinct if nothing is done to prevent poachers from hunting them. Thankfully, the Kenya white giraffes are in a preserve that protects them from hunters.  meantime, the
In the meantime, the ghostly giants are said to be symbols of Mother Nature.
Giraffes are currently known as the tallest mammals on earth and at adult size, they are rarely attacked or killed, by lions or hyenas – except for the juvenile, sick, or aged individuals.
However, an adult giraffe can be ambushed by crocodiles at a water hole since it has to squat to drink water. And as sadly rare as white giraffes are, they’re no ghost to predator attacks.
